Reading – an art so difficult that most people do not really master it even after studying through school and college.
Reading the fine prints; when was the last time any of us did that? And these are the sort of things that happen when you do not read them.
Here is the complete episode. Highly recommended.
Domain Squatting, Scalping and Flipping is practice of owning domains with the intention of selling them at profit to someone who needs, someone who forgot to renew their domain or to use the domain to host ads and generate revenue.
A client of a client of mine forgot to renew his domain and a scalper got hold of it. We worked with the escrow and Scalper (or flipper but not a squatter) and the domain that we had helped them originally procure at $8; we had to buy back for $4950.
Somewhere between then and now, the powers that be forgot to renew the domain on time and it gets scalped again. And the man is distraught; as men often are when they fuck up like that and forget to read the fine print.
Lo and behold, we are called to assist again.
And all night we work on it, especially a mother who had to stay up to deal with a gringo company and a child who is breastfeeding. We write emails. Explain that we had paid earlier to them and here is the receipt, this is our fault, we are sorry, we should have known better and read the fucking fine print.
So after hours and hours of pleading, cajoling and imploring, they offered to re-transfer to us at a substantially reduced fee. Ecstatic; we called our client. All he needed to do what whip his credit card out and make that nominal payment – but the man would not answer.
After making countless uncounted calls; we used our own card and settled the payment.
The phone rang not more ten minutes later. The man profusely apologised and explained that he was in his chambers, praying to the Hindu god of destruction – Shiva.
You could sense the exhilaration in his voice, once he heard the good news.
‘Om Namah Shivay’, he chanted, ‘It is a miracle!’
