Lee Cooper – Fanfare for the Working Man

Some time ago a user on reddit shared an image. The sculler (khivaiya) reminded me of countless Hindi songs about rivers, villages, love and hope. The face of a man hardened by sun; the hackneyed piety of religious tourists seeking instant salvation; the hope and the hopelessness bound together by time; the wood of the oar seemingly giving up before the man does; the catharsis of daily life for the pure joy of a meal at the end of the day with his family.
